Artist story
Anne Vibeke Mou
Thurs 17 April, 7-8.30pm
Danish born artist Anne Vibeke Mou works with glass as part of her
practice. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2005
she has undertaken a funded residency at AAAD in Prague, a site–specific
exhibition project at The Crypt, St Pancras Church, London, and
a residency followed by an exhibition at the National Glass Centre,
Sunderland.
Using images of past and current projects Anne will outline her
approach to developing her practice, including presenting her work
in different contexts.
Anne Vibeke Mou's practice moves between drawing and sculpture,
and ranges from the compulsive processes of making to accidental
encounters with found objects.
Many of her glass sculptural works explore the contrasting qualities
of fluidity and solidity to evoke a beguiling state of ambiguity.
There is a 'frozen mobility' in her work, which has the extraordinary
effect of suggesting time has stopped.
Her interest lies in the compression of narrative and how altering
the sense of chronology can change perceptions of time and space.
The resulting works offers a compelling and often beautiful exploration
of momentary suspension, still moments and loss.
