Press Contacts for Exhibitions and Events (1 of 2)
Press contact is likely to be a part of marketing your exhibition or event. Making Ways (AN Publications), now out of print but available for consultation at the Artist Resource has a useful section on how to approach marketing.
Coverage in local newspapers can be difficult to get unless you’ve got an unusual angle on your event or exhibition.
A file of sample copies of local newspapers and magazines is kept in this section of the Resource. If you decide to send information to local press, use the samples as a guide to writing your press release.
If you are comfortable talking about your work live on air, local radio can be an easier way than newspapers of reaching a wide audience.
Advertising in arts periodicals doesn’t come cheap. As a general rule, the glossier the magazine, the higher the price. However, monthly periodicals have a long ‘table life’ and may be worth considering if you can afford the artwork to create an attractive advert.
This section also holds a list of local press and listings publications and a list of UK arts periodicals (AN Essentials).
