DVDs
Fabrica has produced a range of DVDs which document the exhibitions,
residencies and educational projects as a result of collaborations
with organisations from northern France between 2002 and 2005. Our
partners were the Espace
Croisé gallery in Roubaix and CEMEA,
an educational training organisation in Lille.
Each DVD costs £10 + p&p. To order please call 01273 778646 or

Woodwalk

In Summer 2006, artist Jacques Nimki, created Woodlock a wild flower
meadow in Fabrica. Nimki's work at Fabrica followed a 12-month residency
at King's Wood in Kent hosted by Stour
Valley Arts.
Within the context of this exhibition and residency an exchange
project was initiated by Fabrica, Ceméa and Stour Valley
Arts. Pupils from the Collège Jean Rostand, in Sains en Gohelle
met their counterparts from the Towers School, Ashford, Kent in
the forest at King's Wood, for a day of exploration, workshops and
exchange. Woodwalk documents this project.
Since 1994, Stour Valley Arts has commissioned artists to make sculptures
within the forest. Their use of natural materials means that the
sculptures in King's Wood gradually change and will all, eventually,
become part of the forest.
Bi-lingual French and English. Approx 9 minutes. Summer 2006.
Moloheya

The leaf vegetable moloheya is traditionally called the national
dish of Egypt and is well known across the Middle East and Northern
Africa. Mention moloheya to anyone from this region and it prompts
fond memories and an outpouring of stories about home.
Using this common experience artists Haim Ben Shitrit and Jonathan
Swain spent their month long residency at Fabrica cooking, eating,
comparing recipes and sharing stories about this dish with Brighton
& Hove residents from Syria, Palestine, Sudan and Egypt. They
also introduced this highly nutritious food to other local people,
a subtle, long term bid to extend Jamie Oliver's range of ingredients.
Haim Ben Shitrit is an installation artist who uses video. His work
has been shown in galleries and at film festivals in France and
Israel. Jonathan Swain instigates cross media events that tend to
occur in irregular environments. He lives in Brighton.
This video was commissioned as part of Say AaH, a Brighton and Hove
Council initiative that aims to stimulate debate around the role
that arts can play in the health of individuals, communities and
cities. Haim's flight and accommodation were funded by Bi-arts,
an exchange project for Israeli and British artists. Approx 9 minutes.
Summer 2006.
Drawing On...

Artist Mark Anstee creates monumental images, built up over time
from small individually drawn motifs. His work is often conducted
'live' in galleries, sometimes over long periods. In May 2005 he
created Overkill at CEMEA's Le 118 gallery, and in September the
same year, created Early Redemption at Fabrica. Both works featured
drawings of human forms and explored his ideas about memory and
loss.
Drawing On… documents this new work of Mark Anstee and outlines
some of the key areas of exchange between CEMEA and Fabrica. Principally,
it shows the partners at work in developing educational and learning
activities and describes how CEMEA methods are being employed to
facilitate and enhance people's experience of contemporary art.
Bi-lingual French and English. Approx 7 mins. Winter 2005.
Fibi & Other Stories

In August 2005 Fabrica invited Haim Ben Shitrit to Brighton to develop
ideas for new art works stemming from the multi-lingual approach
of his video Fibi Discussions with Abdel Wadoud. Haim is an installation
artist who uses video. His work has been shown in galleries and
at film festivals in France and Israel. This short film is a document
of the method and outcome of his residency.
Approx 12 mins. Summer 2005.
Slideshow

Slideshow is a project that continues a collaboration between CEMEA
and Fabrica that brings together young people, artists and animateurs
in an exploration of contemporary art and photography.
Two groups of young people worked with photographers Danny Wilson
in Brighton and Fabrice Dubreuil in Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon. They
produced a body of photographs exploring their own environments
and the slideshow on this DVD is their selected work.
The work is presented with a narration developed with the support
of poet, Jackie Wills, or accompanied by their choice of music.
Bi-lingual French and English. Approx 14 mins. Autumn 2005. SOLD
