Polly Carter, in discussion with Karl Broome, Sociology Research
Fellow at Sussex University.
Anish Kapoor’s sculptures play with our perceptions of material
and space and increasingly presents us with visceral forms, bringing
attention to our felt experience, through our bodily existence.
This sense of an ‘embodied self’ is explored by sociologists,
philosophers and other theorists, trying to develop an understanding
of what ‘embodiment’ is, and how it can help our understanding
of ourselves and the world around us.
Are there alternative ways of conceiving of the body and therefore,
variations in it’s use and how it is experienced?
What role do bodies play in the transmission of history and memory?
What is the relationship between our ‘interior’ and
‘exterior’ worlds, are they even necessarily separate?.
Join Polly Carter and Karl Broome in discussing these questions
and others in response to Blood Relations, Kapoor’s exhibition
at Fabrica.
