LUCY ORTA & CHRIS DRURY
Lucy Orta was born in 1966 in the UK. Trained as a fashion and textile designer at Nottingham she has been based in Paris since 1989.
Orta draws on her skills as a fashion and textile designer to create her work. She describes her work as “actions” and “interventions” and used in such a way to highlight issues relating to public welfare. Her work combines architecture and body art with street theatre and ideological activism.
Chris Drury was born in Columbo, Sri Lanka in 1948. He studied sculpture at Camberwell School of Art, London 1966 – 1970. He has lived in Sussex for 18 years and makes art in many parts of the world.
An artist is a communicator, but to be an artist, one must first be a human being: that, whole, undivided, if that is possible. From such a position there is no division between man, art and nature. The world is perceived as it is. Personally I have nothing to communicate, consciously, or unconsciously; the work simply reflects the moving from moment to moment in the world as it is, and so it is, and so it is nature itself that communicates. Chris Drury, Artist.
