A Fine Line was a sculpture created specifically for Fabrica by Belgian artist Frederic Geurts. A Fine Line stemmed from Frederic Geurts’ interest in the dynamic properties of materials and the idea that we are forever at the edge of chaos. He makes monumental but fragile-seeming architectural structures, which appear both organic and engineered.
Geurts’ work is often held at a point of balance between the forces of gravity, movement and material integrity.
“My work is about things that throw me off balance. You could consider them as attempts to overcome gravity, which makes them doomed to fail. In other words, the abyss is certainly present”
A Fine Line was Frederic Geurts’ first solo exhibition in the UK and was commissioned by Fabrica in the context of its European project Landscape, Cities, People; a three-year collaboration with galleries in the England, France and Belgium part-funded by the European Union under the Interreg IVa Two Seas programme.
