About The Event

Samsara (2011), Ron Fricke, 102m, certificate 12

7:30pm Doors, 7:45pm event starts

Named after the Sanskrit word for: ‘wandering’ or ‘world’, Samsara is an experimental documentary from director Ron Fricke that seeks to capture moments and visions that represent the wonders of our world.

Described as a ‘nonverbal guided meditation’, Samsara covers five years worth of production and includes imagery and sequences shot in over twenty five different countries. The hypnotic soundtrack was composed by Michael Stearns, Lisa Gerrard, and Marcello De Francisci over seven months time, while the film itself was edited originally without music to allow the composers to achieve a more intuitive relationship between the sequences of the film and the music. The film avoids a clear narrative altogether and invites the viewer to experience a series of stunning visuals that seek to unite the collective experience of humanity and the world it inhabits.
