Sylvan Nights - A Super Moon Lit Walk with Artist Steve Geliot
Time & Location
About The Event
The event is weather dependent and to ensure the most enjoyable and safe experience the event may move one or two days either side of the proposed date. You will be contacted by email 5 days prior to the event to confirm.
During the month of May, coinciding with The Forked Forest Path installation, by Olafur Eliasson at Fabrica, artist Steve Geliot will be spending time at night in Stanmer Woods, making photographs and sound recordings and creating a blog about the experience of the natural night in this Sussex Woodland location.
This event offers the opportunity to take a walk through the woods at Stanmer Park at night, guided by artist Steve Geliot. An opportunity to watch the moon rise, look, listen, smell and fully immerse yourself in the woodland landscape as the moon etches strong shadows onto the woodland paths.
Steve will talk about how our senses and perception change in the natural dark and what we might look/listen out for. An opportunity to pause and draw a sense of comfort and perspective from the natural night.
Steve says “you can argue that the night is when we are at our most sentient. Occupying this realm of darkness we are forced to look outside ourselves with greater curiosity and wonder, constantly asking “What is that? What am I seeing? What am I hearing?”
Through this shared experience Steve aims to bring people into the night forest, both physically and in the imagination, so that they may know the night a little better, and come to love it more.
At the end of our walk you will be invited to join us with a warm drink.
