Fabrica and BERTS Open Call for an Artist Commission 2022 

Fabrica and Brighton Exiled/Refugee Trauma Services (BERTS), in Brighton & Hove are seeking proposals for an artist residency to take place April-May 2022.


The opportunity is open to visual artists and makers* living or working in the Greater Brighton Area.


The fee is £1500 for c. 6 days artist time, plus £200 expenses


* sculpture/installation, photography, film, digital media, mixed media including time-based and performative practices, crafts, painting, drawing



Fabrica gallery in Brighton is seeking proposals for an artist residency to take place between 11 April and 29 May 2022, in Brighton, on a project that seeks to explore and highlight the experiences of those in exile such as refugees, asylum seekers and destitute migrants.


This process-orientated commission provides the opportunity for an artist to work with experienced commissioners Fabrica, and with BERTS, who provide free specialist trauma counselling and psychotherapy to refugees or other local people living in exile. The project will involve working directly with 6 of BERTS clients.

  • Artists willing to undergo a DBS check. 

  • Preferred: Artists with experience of working with vulnerable people.
