Brighton Film Club presents:

Back to the Future, a perfect film?

Film at Fabrica (30 September 2026, 6.00pm - 10.00pm)
Brighton Film Club is a monthly series for students, emerging filmmakers, new crew, industry professionals and anyone who simply loves to watch 'perfect' films (yes... controversial, we said perfect) and discuss what makes them, well... perfect.

"If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit." — Doc Brown

It’s been forty years since its release, and we’d argue that Back to the Future remains one of the most beloved and rewatchable movies ever made. The screenplay is lauded, it’s astonishingly well constructed, it’s loads of fun to watch and for some reason we just keep coming back to it.

What is it about this film that sets it apart?

We think Back to the Future shares a collection of film storytelling ingredients with a handful of other films. It isn't random. Together, they create a rare category of movies that we (rather controversially) call perfect.

Do you agree it’s perfect?

After the screening we'll put Back to the Future through our Ten Perfect Film Criteria, then open the conversation to the room with a very fun, moderated chat by local film maker (and film buff) Thomas Meadmore.

If you're already mentally preparing your argument... good.

That's exactly the point.

Whether you're simply a movie lover (this event is for everyone, not just people who work in film), a student, editor, producer, writer, director, documentary or fiction filmmaker, we'll all be together simply as film fans, having the same conversation.

And yes... there's free pizza for students, kindly supported by our friends at Pizza Pilgrims next door. Legends.

Does Back to the Future pass the Perfect Film Test?

We think so. Come and make your case!
